GHK-Cu

GHK-Cu is a copper-binding tripeptide consisting of three amino acids — glycine, histidine, and lysine — coordinated with a copper(II) ion. Its molecular formula is C14H21CuN6O4, with a molecular weight of 404.9 g/mol and CAS number 89030-95-5. First identified in 1973 by Loren Pickart, it was observed that this copper-peptide complex occurs in higher concentrations in younger human plasma compared to older samples.

The copper ion binds via the nitrogen atoms of glycine and histidine, producing a distinctive blue crystalline powder. This metallopeptide is uncommon among research peptides and naturally occurs in trace amounts in plasma, saliva, and urine. Supplied as a water-soluble lyophilized powder, it should be stored refrigerated at 2–8°C and protected from light.
